What no one can ever take away from you
Alice was on her death bed. She had no qualms of dying. She had no regrets for not living the years she did either.
As she felt her energy ebbing away,
- She remembered her crazy childhood where she was a naughty girl, having loads of friends and fun
- She remembered her school, the group of friends who stayed in her life and the teachers who taught her more just than the subjects
- She remembered the trophies, the fights, the adventure in bunking classes and the embarrassment while discussing crushes
- She remembered her trepidations on her prom night and the first thrills of romance
- She remembered her education and fulfilling her dream of becoming a doctor against all odds
- She remembered the smile on patients’ faces and the relief on the faces of the family members when she saved lives
- She remembered her conversations and her long walks on the beach with her boyfriend who later became her amazing partner for life
- She remembered the twins and all the parenting fun — twice the trouble they were!
- She remembered watching one of twins from the bleachers as he scored home run after home run for his team
- She remembered shedding a few tears while sitting in the audience and watching her other boy emote his heart on stage
- She remembered the shiver that passed through her spine when she heard of the rebel attack on her husband’s military convoy
- She remembered the twins’ graduation hats in the air when they graduated
- She remembered her grandchildren and how taking care of them reminded her of her own boys
- Her partner, the vacations they took, the adventures they had and they gradual growing into old age, all of it flashed like a movie trailer in front of her eyes
She smiled. She closed her eyes in peace. It was a life well lived.
Memories are the most precious of all that you can ever have – they are yours and only yours.
