Speed & Velocity

No, this isn’t totally about Physics!

I used to hear from a lot of people about the ‘Need for Speed’.

Here are some comments that I usually hear (and my response that makes them think)

  1. We have scaled up to 3+ Billion user professional profiles who can be used for marketing purposes (how many of them — in this half of the world’s population- are actionable and reachable please?)
  2. This is my 4th start-up (how many of them have atleast reached a +ve ROI?)
  3. I read 100+ books in the past year — averaging nearly 2 books per week! (can you summarize the top 5 for me and the lessons for me to take away? blink-blink!)
  4. I have X number of friends! (apart from the mindless likes and comments, how many of them would be ready to help if you called them at 4:00 AM?)
  5. I have Y number of professionals in my network (How many of them are related to what you do and know you well so that they can put in a recommendation/mentor you if needed?)

The examples are plenty.

I am not against speed. It is just that speed without the purpose, the direction falls flat and rarely achieves anything apart from dissipating your energy. And this is where velocity come in = Speed + Direction

“one day of working with a purpose will take you farther than a month of work without a purpose” [Original Quote :)]

And there is no better place to realise this than in a start-up where with limited resources, limited funds but unlimited ideas, you have to pick and choose the right purpose and stay at it!

Pursue velocity — every step you take will be in the right direction!

Wishing you God Velocity (not God Speed)!
